How to install with Excel 2010?

Postby mg » 13 Jul 2010, 09:55

Hello,

I just downloaded Arixcel 1.28 wishing to try it out. It fails to install and gives a message "Cannot find Microsoft Excel on this computer".

I'm running Windows 7 (64bit) with MS Office 2010 (32bit) Home & Student installed. Is there some way I can indicate to Arixcel how to find my excel application?

Thanks,
mg

We do not know the reason for this error. It seems that the installer running in 64 windows cannot find the 32bit Office...

The installer uses a mechanism similar to the following VBS code to find out whether Excel is installed or not:

Code: Select all
Set objExcel = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
MsgBox objExcel.Version

Can you please create a new text file somewhere on your computer, copy and paste the above code in it, rename to "something.vbs" and run? Will you see the Excel version displayed in a message box?

Best regards,

When I run the script you provided I get a popup titled "Windows Script Host" with the following runtime error.

Script: C:\Users\Matthew\Downloads\something.vbs
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: ActiveX component can't create object: 'Excel.Application'
Code: 800A01AD
Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error

fyi. If I look at the shortcut for Excel that is listed under "All programs" then I find the following:
Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\Virtualization Handler\CVH.EXE" "Microsoft Excel 2010 9014006104090000"
Start in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\Virtualization Handler

Does this help?

thanks,

OK, that's the reason then. Your Office 2010 is not installed on your local operating system, but is deployed through Microsoft Application Virtualization - a new technology in Office 2010. I do not think you can add any add-ins to Office installed in that way, including Arixcel Accounts. The only solution is probably to reinstall the Office locally on your operating system.

Your answer makes sense and now I understand why the installation did not work. In which case I will look to make an office installation that is not using virtualization. One last thought on this. I guess that as more people use virtualization then at some point there must be a solution to this issue, otherwise most if not all Excel plug-ins would become unusable.

Hello,

I just downloaded Arixcel 1.31 and installed one copy without problems on a Win XP Offcie 2007 machine.

However on my home computer Windows 7 (64bit) with MS Office 2010 (64bit) Home & Student it fails to load and gives a message "Run-time error 429: ActiveX component can't create object".

Can anyone help please.

Unfortunately, Arixcel Accounts does not work with 64 bit versions of Microsoft Office yet.
