Importing - Exporting - Archiving

Postby elius » 08 Feb 2010, 10:09

Hello.

I am examining the Arixcel consumer product with the view to purchase. I have examined the site, the screenshots & some of the other threads, & am now here with some of my own questions.

[importing]
i) is it possible to import other simple data in a similar style? how?
ii) is it possible to import other data in the form of a CSV document? if possible, any other formats?

[exporting]
i) is it possible to export Arixcel data? If so, will the original document format be retained?
ii) will Arixcel work with other software ie. how much 'interoperability' is possible (see also i) above)?

[archiving]
i) can Arixcel handle archiving? If yes, how do you do this & for how far back can one go? 10 years? 20? 50 or more?

Thanks,

Elius

Elius, thanks for your interest in Arixcel and your quesitons.

The answers would be as follows:

Importing - Arixcel is capable of automatically importing data only from OFX and QIF files. In doint it, the program ensures that only new transactions are added to their right accounts without duplicating. You can always add data to your accounting spreadsheet manually - by creating empty transactions and then copying and pasting data there from any other source. So you can open the CSV file and then copy and paste data into your accounting spreadsheet.

Exporting - You can always copy and paste data from Excel to anywhere else. You can also "Save As" your accounting spreadsheet into any format supported by Excel. But there is no functionality to export transactions into OFX files or other financial exchange formats.

Archiving - There is a special functionality provided in Arixcel Accounts for automatically removing transactions that fall outside of the time range of the accounting spreadsheet. So you can "Save As" your spreadsheet under a different name, then change its time range to start from a certain date. All transactions before that date will be removed and added to the accounts' opening balances. So you can continue working with the new, smaller spreadsheet and ZIP the old one as an archive. However, Arixcel Accounts is designed to handle many thousands of transactions in a spreadsheet, so you may decide not to cut it for a long time (5 years should be no problem at all).

We hope this is helpful. Do not hesitate to ask any other questions.

All the best,
