I have just loaded bank statements from an ofx file. One of the transactions is :
Date : 19/08/09
Type : Bank statement
Description : CB CTRE LECLERC 18/08 PAU 64 // it is a comercial centre. I paid by CB card
Amount : -€64.12
Period : 2009 Aug
Category : ?
My problem is that I didn't buy only food : I bought also clothes (€14.45), scolar articles (€8.69), and some extra (€16.64). So I have to break down this transaction in order to specify all these categories with their amount. At that moment, I needed a right-click function to breack down this transaction. It might have added 4 lines, one per category.
So is it possible to subdivide a transaction so as to allocate one expense to several categories?
The answer is yes. It is achieved with the help of the Adjustments sheet, which was desiged mainly for this very purpose. Using the above example, you would need to do the following:
- Allocate the whole €64.12 to Food on the account sheet
- Go to sheet Adj and add 3 adjustments
- The first adjustment will be for minus €14.45 that you will subtract from Food and add to Clothes
- The second adjustment will be for minus €8.69 that you will subtract from Food and add to Scolar Items
- The third one will be for €16.64 that you will subtract from Food and add to Other
Please let us know if find this a good solution or not, or if you would like some other functionality for splitting transactions.
